Having been in a language learning plateau for a while now, I decided to restructure the way I study. I’ve already noticed an improvement in my Japanese these past few weeks which I attribute to these changes.
1. Writing in Japanese
I started an exchange diary with a Japanese friend who studies English. Alternatively, Lang-8!
2. Cafes
Buying a coffee and studying with it acts as a sort of placebo affect. It makes me.more productive. Downside: Expensive
3. MEMRISE
A smart flashcard App. I just use the pre-made JLPT N2 level decks and I noticed an improvement in my reading within a few days. It’s strange. The more I study, the more I start seeing these kanjis everywhere, like they were always there but I had somehow blanked it out.
4. Reading
I’m reading a book I enjoy right now. I note the unfamiliar vocabulary and as vocabulary is re-used it becomes easier to remember. I’m not bothering with learning EVERY word I don’t know. For now, I want to get used to ‘natural’ Japanese.
5. Anime
I’ve started watching anime and repeating after them. Some call this ‘shadowing’.
6. JLPT grammar guides
Going through these help!I like Kanzen Master over Matome series because there are more drills, but I’ll do both for N2 level. Matome first, because of the 8 week structure (but I’ll do it in four weeks)
